🐬 Several species of dolphins

🌊 UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

🚌 Departs from central Seville

Imagine standing on the deck of a boat, Africa to your left and Europe to your right, as a pod of dolphins races alongside you through the turquoise waters of the Strait of Gibraltar. This is wild nature at its most spectacular — at the crossroads of two continents, two seas, and one of the richest marine ecosystems on the planet.

Departing from central Seville, this full-day excursion takes you to the Strait of Gibraltar — declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO — home to several species of dolphins. You’ll spend around 90 minutes at sea on a specialised vessel, observing dolphins in their natural habitat, before enjoying free time to explore the fascinating city of Gibraltar.

🐬 What Makes This Experience Unique

🌍 Two Continents, One Strait

At just 14 km wide at its narrowest point, the Strait of Gibraltar is where Europe and Africa nearly touch, and where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea.

🐋 Several Dolphin Species

Several dolphin species live in the Strait year-round; other cetaceans are occasionally seen depending on the season. Sightings are very frequent but cannot be guaranteed.

🔭 Specialist Boat Trip

The 90-minute cruise uses a cetacean-watching boat and observes the dolphins at a safe distance, in the protected waters of this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

📍 Main Spots on This Tour

Beyond the dolphin watching itself, this trip takes you to one of the most extraordinary destinations in southern Europe:

  • The Strait of Gibraltar — Barely 14 km wide, this narrow channel is where the Atlantic and Mediterranean collide, generating powerful upwellings that attract dolphins in remarkable concentrations. One of the best dolphin-watching spots in Europe.
  • Gibraltar Bay — The sheltered bay where the boat departs. Bottlenose dolphins are frequently spotted here year-round, often riding the wake of vessels heading out to the open Strait.
  • The Rock of Gibraltar — The iconic 426-metre limestone monolith dominating the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. During your free time, walk up or take the cable car for panoramic views across the Strait to the Rif mountains of Morocco.
  • Gibraltar Town — A genuinely unique destination: British pubs and red phone boxes a few steps from Moorish castle walls and Andalusian architecture. Explore the pedestrianised Main Street, pick up some duty-free shopping, or simply enjoy a coffee watching cargo ships navigate between two continents.

📖 Description

Your day begins at one of three conveniently located meeting points in central Seville, where your guide will welcome the group before departing south towards Gibraltar. The drive of roughly two hours takes you through the heart of Andalusia — rolling hills, white villages glimpsed in the distance, and the gradual appearance of the sea as you approach the coast.

On arrival, you’ll board a fully equipped cetacean-watching vessel and head out into the Strait of Gibraltar. Over approximately 90 minutes, you will observe the marine life of this exceptional stretch of water at a safe distance. The Strait’s unique oceanography — where Atlantic water flowing in at the surface meets the denser Mediterranean water flowing out below — creates upwellings rich in fish that draw dolphins in extraordinary numbers. Several dolphin species are present year-round and sightings are very frequent, although, as with any wildlife, they cannot be guaranteed. Other cetaceans are occasionally seen depending on the season.

After the cruise, you’ll have free time in Gibraltar to explore at your own pace. This British Overseas Territory on the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula is unlike anywhere else in Europe — a place where you can have a pint in an English pub, buy duty-free goods, watch Barbary macaques on the Upper Rock, and gaze across the Strait at the Moroccan coastline, all within a few kilometres. The return journey to Seville brings you back to your original pick-up point.
